Fillings
Fillings can be needed for several reasons such as dental decay, injury and for cosmetic reasons. Dental fillings are one of the most common dental treatments. At Arch Dental Care Baldock, we take pride is using the best equipment and materials to give the best possible outcome.
Types of dental fillings:
There are two main types of fillings that are used in dentistry.
- Amalgam fillings were used significantly in the past. These are the blackish-grey type metal fillings.
- Nowadays, most patients prefer to have what we call Composite fillings.
Some of the advantages of Composite filling over Amalgam fillings are listed below:
- Composite fillings are sticky adhesive fillings compared to amalgam fillings which have no bonding to the tooth.
- Composite fillings are adhesive so they require less drilling of the tooth compared to a metal based amalgam filling.
- Composite fillings are tooth coloured and discrete so are cosmetically superior to the blackish-grey amalgam filling.
Please speak to your dentist to discuss this in more detail.
